I was going through some intense warfare and was slowly slipping into self-pity, then I heard the voice of the Lord saying to me, “Do you do know who you are? Do you know who you are? Do you know who you are?”
I heard it so loud and looked around the room but no one was there.
I got up from the bed, washed my face, and reminded myself of who God said I am and what He wants to do in my life.
The Word says “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8, NIV).
We are in this season where the body of Christ is experiencing warfare like no other because God is moving and wants to take us higher.
For us to fight this battle, we have to know who we are in Christ.
If the enemy can make us believe a lie about who we are, he knows there is no way we can be who God has called us to be.
When Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights in Luke 4, Jesus was tempted by the devil (Luke 4:1). He had been without food and water for so long and He was vulnerable (Luke 4:2). Yet, He did not sin because even in our vulnerability, we have to be careful to not fall into the trap of the enemy.
Though the devil questioned Jesus’ identity by challenging him, “…if you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread” (Luke 4:3, NIV), Jesus knew who He was.
He knew His identity was not in what He did or did not have but in whom He belonged to and represented. Our warfare with the enemy is never personal, we are God’s ambassadors meant to represent Christ on Earth (2 Cor. 5:20).
So when we are attacked by Satan, we must remember the battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s and the war is already won. God said no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV) so when we are attacked, we must remember who is fighting for us and who we are in Christ.
How Do You Know And Believe In Who God Says You Are?
A little while ago, I had a major breakdown. I was going through depression and believed the lies of the enemy that I was worthless and that nobody cared about me.
I was bathing in guilt and shame every single day.
Every time I took one step forward, I ended up taking two steps backward. I was desperate for a breakthrough and that’s when through my tears, I said this prayer,
"Father, I know You love me. I know You created me. Help me to see myself the way You see me. Help me to believe in what Your word says about me. You said I am worth dying for, help me to believe it."
As I said this prayer I was led to Ephesians 1. This chapter not only affirms who God says we are but it also tells of the blessings He has given us. The day I read and understood this chapter for the first time, it changed my life.
You Are Blessed!
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Ephesians 1: 3
These blessings are not just material blessings. They are spiritual: the forgiveness of your sins and His grace over your life that empowers you to do the impossible! In addition, they are wisdom and understanding through the Holy Spirit who is a deposit guaranteeing your inheritance in Christ.
You Are Chosen!
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. Ephesians 1:4
You are not here by accident you were chosen by God. In Psalm 139:16, King David says, “all the days of my life were ordained before one of them came to be.” Every time the enemy tries to make you feel like you are just an accident, remind yourself of this verse because you are chosen!
Conclusion
Knowing who we are in Christ is a journey. It is something that we have to constantly remind ourselves of when doubt starts to creep in but it is crucial to know who we are in Christ to resist the enemy who is after our souls.
If you are uncertain about who you are in Christ or just want a reminder I encourage you to read Ephesians 1 in its entirety.
I guarantee it will change your life as it did for me.
